Why Bare Concrete Around a Pool Is a Problem
Pool deck coatings give an existing concrete pool deck a slip-resistant, UV-stable, easy-to-clean surface that stands up to water, sunscreen, bare feet, and Montana's freeze-thaw winters. Streamline Solutions coats and restores existing pool decks, hot tub pads, and surrounding patio concrete across Kalispell and the Flathead Valley — we do not pour new decks or install new pools.
A pool deck lives a harder life than almost any other slab on your property. It's soaked all summer, baked by high-elevation UV off the water, splashed with chlorinated or salt-system water, and then left to freeze solid through a Flathead Valley winter. Bare concrete absorbs all of it.
The result shows up in stages. First the surface darkens and holds water longer. Then it gets slick where algae and sunscreen film build up. Eventually freeze-thaw cycles open pits and spalls, and bare feet start finding rough spots and sharp edges. A coated deck breaks that cycle: the coating seals the surface against water, adds texture you can grip with wet feet, and gives UV a wear layer to attack instead of the concrete itself.
Streamline Solutions will also tell you plainly when coating is the wrong move — a deck with major heaving, wide structural cracks, or drainage problems needs those fixed first. We coat sound decks; we don't hide failing ones.

Signs Your Pool Deck Needs a Coating
If the deck is slick when wet, stains no matter how often you wash it, shows pitting or surface flaking, feels too hot to walk on in July, or just looks tired next to a pool you've invested in, it's a candidate. Hairline cracks and surface wear are normal and correctable during prep. The best time to act is before winter does another season of damage — a deck that's starting to pit now will cost more to restore in two years.
Cool-Touch, Slip Resistance, and the Systems We Use
Pool decks get purpose-built systems, not garage-floor products rebadged. Streamline Solutions matches the system to the deck and how you use it:
Slip-resistant texture
Broadcast texture in the topcoat gives wet bare feet real grip — around ladders, steps, and the hot tub especially. Texture level is a choice, not an accident; we set it with you during the quote.
UV-stable topcoats
High-elevation Montana sun yellows and chalks cheap coatings fast, especially with reflection off the water. We use UV-stable polyaspartic and aliphatic topcoats made to hold color and gloss outdoors.
Cooler underfoot
Lighter colors and certain texture systems can keep a deck noticeably cooler under summer sun than dark bare concrete. If barefoot comfort matters, we spec for it.
Chemical and water resistance
Chlorine, salt-system water, and sunscreen wipe off a sealed, coated surface instead of soaking in. Cleanup becomes a hose and a broom.
What a Pool Deck Coating Costs in the Flathead Valley
Most pool deck coating projects in the Kalispell area price by square footage, current surface condition, and the system selected. Small hot tub pads and compact decks sit at the low end; large wraparound decks with repair needs sit higher. Because condition drives so much of the price, we quote from an on-site inspection with a written, fixed scope — measurement, condition review, system recommendation, and the installed price.

Our Pool Deck Coating Process
Inspect and measure
We check slope, drainage, cracks, prior sealers or paint, and moisture. Pool decks that hold standing water need that addressed in the plan.
Diamond-grind preparation
Mechanical prep opens the surface so the coating bonds into the concrete, not onto a weak paste layer. Old failing sealer or paint comes off here.
Repair cracks and spalls
Surface damage gets filled and profiled so it disappears into the finished deck instead of telegraphing through.
Base coat and broadcast
The pigmented base goes down and texture is broadcast to the slip-resistance level we agreed on.
UV-stable topcoat
The clear wear layer locks the system together and takes the sun, water, and traffic.
Cure and walkthrough
We walk the finished deck with you, cover care and cure times, and leave you with maintenance guidance. Most decks take light foot traffic quickly; we confirm exact timing by product and weather.
